The large-scale design on the front shows the outline of Palestine, filled with plants, places and symbols from Palestine and the wider region. It features an olive tree, the Dome of the Rock within the Al-Aqsa compound, a watermelon, a pomegranate and two women: one fighting for freedom, the other wearing a kufiya around her neck. Inside the design, فلسطين – Filastin, Palestine – appears in Arabic, with AZADÎ beside it in white lettering.
The Story Behind the Design
The map is not an abstract shape. Its outline keeps visible a land that continues to live in Palestinian history, memory and everyday life. The images within it speak of this connection to the land and of the demand for freedom and self-determination.
The olive tree stands for rootedness, cultivation and continuity across generations. The Dome of the Rock within the Al-Aqsa compound points to Jerusalem and to a place of profound religious, cultural and historical importance. Watermelon and pomegranate evoke Palestinian identity, landscape and life. Carrying the colours of the Palestinian flag, the watermelon became a way to keep that identity visible even when its political symbols were suppressed.
The two women represent people who refuse to be reduced to victims. One is visibly fighting for freedom; the other wears the kufiya as a sign of Palestinian belonging, memory and resistance. Between them is فلسطين, pronounced Filastin – the Arabic name for Palestine.
Azadî is the Kurdish word for freedom; in Persian it is written Azadi. The call connects struggles in Palestine, Kurdistan and Iran without treating their different histories as identical. In this design, it expresses a shared demand: freedom, dignity and self-determination for Palestine and for all oppressed peoples.
