The large design on the front of the hoodie features PALESTINE in a classic college style. Beneath it are the words NAKBA and EST. 1948, combining the familiar look of a college emblem with political remembrance. The design makes Palestinian identity visible and calls on us not to erase the Nakba or its consequences, which continue to this day.

The Story Behind the Design

Nakba is the Arabic word for catastrophe. Palestinians use it for the mass displacement and dispossession of 1948, when hundreds of thousands of people lost their homeland and numerous Palestinian towns and villages were destroyed, depopulated or settled by Israel.

NAKBA EST. 1948 deliberately borrows the language of classic college emblems. Where “established” would usually celebrate the founding year of an institution, here it marks the beginning of a catastrophe whose consequences continue today. For Palestinians, the Nakba is not a closed chapter: displacement, land theft, occupation, settlement violence and settler terrorism continue to shape their lives.

The design connects remembrance with Palestinian identity. It honours those who were displaced and their descendants, refuses erasure and stands for the right of return, justice and a life of freedom and self-determination.
